Events for Bigs and Littles

Match activities provide free and inexpensive things to do and the opportunity to meet other Bigs and Littles. These structured group events are part of REACH, which incorporates learning and development into a variety of activities that provide a well-rounded experience for our Littles. There are five categories of REACH activities:

2017 August Activities

 Boat Cruise on Lake Michigan *All ages *NEW Program structure and time We now have space available!
Sunday, August 20 from 11:15am sharp-4:00pm
South Shore Yacht Club, 2300 E. Nock St. Milwaukee, 53207
Join BBBS for our annual cruise on Lake Michigan with members from the South Shore Yacht Club. We have a new, structured program this year that will include a guest speaker from the Auxiliary Coast Guard to discuss the importance of safety on the water and teach yachting and navigational skills. Everyone will participate in the program prior to boarding the boats. Following the program, matches will board a sailboat or powerboat and enjoy exploring Lake Michigan with a captain and crew members. Upon returning to shore, matches will enjoy a complimentary cookout. Please note: You will have a chance to select your preference of a powered yacht or sailboat, but there is no guarantee. In addition, United Way is one of our largest funders and we are asked to have Little’s complete a survey to share feedback on our program. Your Little may be asked to complete this survey during the event. This event is for all ages.

2-on-2 Basketball Tournament *All Ages Space Still Available!
Wednesday, August 23 from 6:00pm-8:00pm

Beulah Brinton Community Center, 2555 S. Bay St., Milwaukee, 53207
Dribble, pass, shoot, and score. Join BBBS for an outdoor 2-on-2 basketball tournament. All skill levels are welcome. We will have age and gender divisions. Matches will play together, develop team building skills, and meet new matches. Awards, prizes and dinner will be provided. This event is for all ages. *Please note: If you are a couple’s match we will rotate you in.

BBBS & Playworks Playground Pandemonium! * Ages 6-12 Space Still Available!
Tuesday, August 29 from 6:00pm-7:30pm

Siefert Elementary School, 1547 N. 14th St. Milwaukee, 53205
Meet us on the playground for a night of games and activities with other Bigs and Littles from across the city, led by the coaches of Playworks WI. All activities are focused on promoting positive social and emotional interaction and development...and fun, so much fun! Snacks and water will be provided. This event is for Littles ages 6-12.

Bump, Set, Spike in the Sand *Ages 10 and older Space Still Available!
Wednesday, August 30 from 6:00pm-8:00pm

Wrap up the summer and start the school year off with an evening on the sand. Learn the basics of volleyball as you play on the sand courts. Matches will play together and develop skills and teamwork with Milwaukee Recreation. No experience necessary. Dinner will be provided. This event is for Littles ages 10 and older.

“Dream Big” with the Milwaukee Bucks *Ages 12 and older
Wednesday, September 6 from 5:30pm-8:30pm

Bradley Center, 1001 N. 4th St. Milwaukee, 53203
Do you know what your Little wants to be when he or she grows up? No matter what the answer is you can always “Dream Big.” Join us for an evening of exploring different careers within the NBA. Working in professional sports is not limited to playing the game. Matches will have the opportunity to learn about career options in professional sports and sports management. This is a special interactive, behind the scenes event that will be teach Littles about careers, the education they need, and how to make their dream a reality. There will be prizes, giveaways and more! Dinner will be provided. This event is for Littles ages 12 and older.

Learn! Develop! Grow! Join BBBS for a fun-filled event focused on building your match relationship. This activity is intended for our newest matches, giving you the opportunity to meet new friends, set goals and learn more about each other. We will have interactive games that will help you with strengthening the building blocks of your friendship. You will walk away with great tips to help you both as you continue to develop your relationship. Lunch will be provided. This event is for matches within the first four months and for all ages.

Looking for a fun and exciting activity to do with your teenage Little? Your mission, should you choose to accept it: Navigate clocks, locks, secret passages and more to escape the room before time runs out! Matches will need their wits, teamwork, and critical thinking to accomplish your mission. This event is for Littles ages 15 and older.

Rockets & Robots Competition *All ages
Saturday, September 16 from 10:00am-1:00pm

Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE), 1025 N. Broadway, Milwaukee, 53202
Join the MSOE’s robotic mining team to learn about how to incorporate science, technology, engineering and math with two hands on projects. Matches will team up and compete in designing, building and launching high-powered, reusable rockets. Then we will head to the science building, to design, test, and operate robots. Lunch will be provided. This event is for Littles of all ages.

Civics in Action at City Hall *Ages 11 and older
Thursday, September 21 from 5:30pm-8:00pm

City Hall, 200 E. Wells St., Milwaukee, 53202
Join elected leaders from the City of Milwaukee government for a brief overview of how our youth today can make a difference in their community. Mayor Tom Barrett and an alderperson will address the group and answer questions. Matches will participate in our “Little Council,” where they will elect a President and vote on laws while representing their district. This activity will teach the importance of civic engagement. This is an opportunity to experience what it is like to be a policy maker, learn how decisions are made, and see how change happens. Dinner will be provided. This event is for Littles ages 11 and older.

Match Anniversary Event (new location) *All Ages
Tuesday, September 26 from 6:00pm-8:00pm

Bounce Milwaukee, 2801 S. 5th Ct., Milwaukee, 53207
The Anniversary Event is designed to celebrate long-lasting mentoring relationships. We will have a structured program with games, awards and dinner. Then you and your Little will explore Bounce with rock climbing, laser tag, and bounce houses. BBBS holds a Match Anniversary Event every other month. Matches celebrating anniversaries in September and October will be invited to this event. This event is for all ages.

 Girls CrossFit Day Out *Ages 10 and older

Badger CrossFit, 1169 N. 62nd St., Wauwatosa, 53213
Join BBBS for a fun afternoon of fitness with Badger CrossFit. Experience a variety of exercises to learn more about functional training and a variety of movements you can do in a gym and on your own. Healthy snacks will be provided. This event is for Littles ages 10 and older.
