Events for Bigs and Littles

Match activities provide free and inexpensive things to do and the opportunity to meet other Bigs and Littles. These structured group events are part of REACH, which incorporates learning and development into a variety of activities that provide a well-rounded experience for our Littles. There are five categories of REACH activities:

July Activities

PEARLS for Teen Girls *Ages 13-16
Wednesday, July 13 from 6:00pm-8:00pm, Wednesday, July 20 from 6:00pm-8:00pm, Wednesday, July 27 from 6:00pm-8:00pm
PEARLS for Teen Girls, 1805 N. Doctor M.L.K. Dr., Milwaukee, 53212
BBBS is partnering with PEARLS for Teen Girls for a three session program specifically for Big Sister/Little Sister matches. PEARLS is a unique leadership development program for girls in Milwaukee. Their programming helps empower girls to live out the PEARLS values: Personal responsibility, Empathy, Awareness, Respect, Leadership, and Support. Little Sisters should be girls between the ages of 13-16 who are going to be freshmen or sophomores this fall. This program will help Bigs and Littles engage in important conversations about issues of interest and concern to girls this age, including: self-confidence, relationship-building and sexual health, while having fun with creative activities. Match Anniversary Party (new location) *All Ages Space Still Available!

The Anniversary Party is designed to celebrate long-lasting mentoring relationships. We will have a structured program with games, awards and dinner. Then you and your Little will go bowling with other matches, win prizes, and much more. BBBS holds a Match Anniversary Party every other month. Matches celebrating anniversaries in July and August will attend this party. This event is for all ages.

Zoo Careers in Action *Ages 14-18 Space Still Available!
Saturday, July 30 from 9:00am-12:00pm

Milwaukee County Zoo, 10001 W. Bluemound Rd., Milwaukee, 53226
Running a zoo takes a lot more than meets the eye. Explore the many jobs that create great experiences for zoo visitors and help care for the Zoo’s animals. Gain a better understanding of the variety of zoo careers by going behind the scenes and talking to a zookeeper, a vet tech, and a horticulturist. Snacks will be provided. This event if for Littles ages 14 and older.

Learn! Develop! Grow! Join BBBS for a fun-filled event focused on building your match relationship. This activity is intended for our newest matches, giving you the opportunity to meet new friends, set goals, and learn more about each other. We will have interactive games that will help you with strengthening the building blocks of your friendship. You will walk away with great tips to help you both as you continue to develop your relationship. Dinner will be provided. This event is for matches within the first four months and for all ages.

Critters & Canoes *All Ages *Rescheduled

Explore pond life and aquatic adaptations along the shore of a lagoon. Learn skills in canoeing and continue your exploration on the lagoon to discover more pond ecology using nets and other equipment. Dinner will be provided. This event is for all ages.

Volunteer at our NFL Golf Classic *Ages 10 and older
Monday, August 8 (Volunteers will start from 8:00am-7:00pm)

We are looking for matches to volunteer at our 26th Annual Big Brothers Big Sisters NFL Alumni Golf Classic. This is our premier charity golf outing where prominent business and community leaders play golf with an NFL Alumni celebrity to raise funds for our program. This is the only Milwaukee opportunity to enjoy 18 holes of golf with an NFL Alumni celebrity at Milwaukee’s exclusive North Hills Country Club. This is a great way to teach your Little about giving back to by volunteering your time. This will give our golfers an opportunity to interact with our matches.

*8:00am-11:00am-Matches will assist in handing out gifts to the golfers as they arrive. Breakfast will be provided following your assistance.

*12:30pm-3:30pm-Matches will assist a BBBS staff on a designated hole. Tasks will include; meet and greet with golfers, assist with serving lunch, and promoting our “Support a Match” campaign to the golfers as they play through. Lunch will be provided.

* 4:00pm-7:00pm- Matches will assist a BBBS staff for the afternoon portion of the event. Tasks will include: meet and greet with golfers, opportunity to observe the final golf shoot out, and promote our silent auction. Matches will then enjoy dinner and interact with golfers and share their story about being in our program.

Please note: All matches must arrive on time and will need to wear a BBBS REACH t-shirt. We will provide you shirt on the day of the event if you do not have one. This event is for Littles ages 10 and older.

  BBBS Goes Back to School *All Ages
Saturday, August 13 from 10:00am-2:00pm

Discovery World 500 N. Harbor Dr. Milwaukee, 53202
This event is one of our Parent Connection Series activities for all programs to attend with their family, their Big. We encourage your Little’s parent/caregiver to invite you to attend with them. If you would like help communicating with your Little’s parent/caregiver please contact your Match Support Specialist. This is a great way to build your relationship and spend time together. You are invited to join the fun at Discovery World, courtesy of Big Brothers Big Sisters. While you are there, explore science and technology exhibits, interact with BBBS staff and other BBBS participants, learn about community resources and FREE school supplies (while supplies last)! This event is for all ages. Please Note: BBBS has invited your Little’s family and registration must be completed by your Little’s parent/caregiver.

Milwaukee Public Market 400 N Water St, Milwaukee, WI 53202
Celebrate the Olympic games with BBBS and participate in fun interactive scavenger hunt at the Public Market. Teach your Little about different cultures, geographic locations, customs, food, and more. Sample a variety of different ethnic foods throughout the event. This event is for all ages.

Sunday, August 21 from 12:30pm sharp – 4:00pm

South Shore Yacht Club 2300 E. Nock St. Milwaukee, 53207
Join members of South Shore Yacht Club for our annual summer event. This is a special opportunity to experience and explore Lake Michigan in a powered yacht or sailboat. You will have an opportunity to meet community members, other matches, and BBBS staff as you learn about the ins and out of yachting and navigational skills. There will be a complimentary cookout following the cruise. Please note: You will have a chance to select your preference of a powered yacht or sailboat, but there is no guarantee. This event is for all ages.

BBBS & Playworks Playground Pandemonium! * Ages 6-12
Thursday, August 25 from 6:00pm-7:30pm

Meet us on the playground for a night of games and activities with other Bigs and Littles from across the city, led by the coaches of Playworks WI. All activities are focused on promoting positive social and emotional interaction and development...and fun, so much fun! Snacks and water will be provided. This event is for Littles ages 6-12.

  Bump, Set, Spike in the Sand *Ages 12 and older
Tuesday, August 30 from 6:00pm-8:00pm

Beulah Brinton Community Center, 2555 Bay St. Milwaukee, 53207
Wrap up the summer and start the school year off with an evening on the sand. Learn the basics of volleyball as you play on the sand courts. Matches will play together and develop skills and teamwork with Milwaukee Recreation. No experience necessary. Dinner will be provided. This event is for Littles ages 12 and older.
