Events for Bigs and Littles

Match activities provide free and inexpensive things to do and the opportunity to meet other Bigs and Littles. These structured group events are part of REACH, which incorporates learning and development into a variety of activities that provide a well-rounded experience for our Littles. There are five categories of REACH activities:

September Activities

Civics in Action City Hall
Wednesday, September 17 from 5:45 pm - 8:30 pm

City Hall, 200 E. Wells, Milwaukee
Join special guests and elected leaders from the City of Milwaukee government for a brief overview of how our youth today can make a difference in their community.  Matches will then tour historic City Hall and learn the importance of what civic engagement means. Take part in a mock council meeting to experience what it is like to be a policy maker, learn how decisions are made and how change can happen. Dinner will be provided. This event is for all ages.

BBBS Day with Habitat for Humanity in Waukesha
Saturday, September 20 from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

330 N. West Ave., Waukesha, 53186 (Build Site)

Join us for our 1st BBBS Day with Habitat for Humanity. This is a chance to make a difference in our community. Habitat for Humanity of Waukesha County turned 25 this year and over that time they have helped dozens of families find affordable housing by building or making repairs to their homes. The BBBS Build Day will allow Littles to work on the construction site and learn more about the home building process. All ages are welcome.

Age-specific activities throughout the day:
9:00am-12:00pm Morning Build Shift
5 matches build the framework for the interior walls of the home. Ages 16 and older.

10 matches will help Habitat for Humanity of Waukesha County by making thank-you cards for Habitat for Humanity for donors and volunteers. Ages 6-15

Everyone will enjoy an overview of Humanity for Humanity and lunch will be provided.

1:00pm-4:00pm Afternoon Build Shift
5 matches will build the framework for the interior walls of the home. Ages 16 and older.

Match Anniversary Party- September & October
Wednesday, September 24 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Evolution, 233 East Chicago St., Milwaukee
The Anniversary Party includes awards, games and food. Our party is designed to celebrate long-lasting mentoring relationships. We will have a chance to play ping pong and other games. BBBS holds a Match Anniversary Party every other month. Matches celebrating anniversaries in September and October will attend this party. This event is for all ages.

Pat the Cat at the Milwaukee County Zoo
Saturday, September 27 from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Milwaukee County Zoo,  10001 W. Blue Mound Rd. Milwaukee
SHARP Literacy, Zoological Society of Milwaukee, and Big Brothers Big Sisters have teamed up for a truly unique opportunity. In a classroom setting, matches will learn about a jaguar’s journey from the rainforest of Belize to the concrete jungle of Milwaukee. Activities will include learning about unique characteristics of jaguars, as well as learning about Pat’s history. There will also be a special visit to see the main character of our book at the Milwaukee County Zoo. Join us as we learn a true story of a very noble jaguar, as told by children of the Americas. We will read the We Love to Learn book titled “Pat the Great Cat” and engage in a hands on rainforest themed art project to go along with the story. Light snacks will be provided.  This event is for Littles ages 6-12.
