Events for Bigs and Littles

Match activities provide free and inexpensive things to do and the opportunity to meet other Bigs and Littles. These structured group events are part of REACH, which incorporates learning and development into a variety of activities that provide a well-rounded experience for our Littles. There are five categories of REACH activities:

BBBS R.B.I. (Relationship Building Initiative)
Wednesday, October 1 from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm

788 N. Jefferson St. Milwaukee
Our Relationship Building Initiative is designed to help build your relationship as a mentor/mentee match.  Matches will participate in a variety of games and activities designed to build personal confidence and strengthen relationships. This is a great opportunity to share the amazing journey your match has embarked on with others traveling the same road!  Dinner will be provided. This event is for all matches and all ages.

 Fishing & Macro-invertebrates Adventures on the Menominee River  
Saturday, October 11 from 10:00am-12:30pm
Urban Ecology Center Menominee Valley 3700 W. Pierce St., Milwaukee, 53215
Fall is the season for salmon migration in the Menominee River. Join us to learn the basics of lure tying, casting and pole maintenance, and then head to the banks to get fishing! It is a high probability of seeing salmon swimming upstream.

No experience or equipment necessary! Put the waders on and explore the river life and aquatic adaptations along the Menominee River. Join us to collect, observe and identify river creatures that reside on the shores, and find out what macro invertebrates are. Dress appropriately for the weather. Snacks will be provided. This event is for Littles ages 11 and older. Please note: Bigs will need to have a fishing license in order to participate. Click here to learn more.

Unite Against Bullying
Wednesday, October 15 from 6:00pm-8:15pm
Milwaukee Safety Academy 6680 N. Teutonia Ave., Milwaukee, 53209
October is National Anti-bullying Month. Join BBBS and Milwaukee Police Officer, Bill Singleton, for a hands on workshop to discuss, learn, and practice anti-bullying skills. Matches will be able to focus on conflict resolution skills in an interactive way to build positive relationships. This workshop will benefit Littles whether they've had experience with bullying or not. Dinner will be provided. This event is for Littles ages 12-18.

Join First Stage for a private pre-show workshop to develop a deeper understanding of the play’s themes as well as a stronger connection to the curricular ties explored within the show. Stay and enjoy a special preview performance of

Sherlock Holmes is missing, and the streets of London are awash with crime. Without the famously shrewd detective to save them, who will help the people of London?  The Baker Street Irregulars – a gang of street kids hired by Sherlock himself to help solve cases – accept the challenge of defending the Victorian city against the forces of evil, including the criminal mastermind believed to be the notorious Moriarty. Based on the graphic novels by New York Times best-selling author Tony Lee, drawn by critically acclaimed artist Dan Boultwood, this family-friendly adventure will unveil clues as to the true fate of Sherlock Holmes.  The game is afoot! This event is for Littles ages 7 and older.
