Meet Bertha, a Veritas High School student, and her mentor Treanna, a volunteer from GE Healthcare. They have been matched in our mentor2.0 program for the past 4 years – this is our college readiness program that helps first generation students go to college.

When Bertha was matched with Treanna she “thought I would just try to get a decent job.” Formal education “just wasn’t a big tradition in my family.” After receiving tremendous support from Treanna, and weekly classes and college-focused curriculum from Big Brothers Big Sisters, Bertha graduated from high school on time.  She is now enrolled at University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she plans to study psychology.

Matches of the Year

Each year we celebrate the positive impact of mentoring relationships by selecting an outstanding Big Brother/Little Brother match and Big Sister/Little Sister match. Our Matches of the Year represent hundreds of wonderful Bigs and Littles involved in our programs, and help us by being ambassadors for mentoring throughout the year.

Matches are selected based on the following criteria:

• the length of the match
• the strength of the relationship between the Big and Little
• demonstrated success in achieving positive outcomes
• connection and affiliation to our BBBS agency
